Émile Gallé (1846-1904) was a French master glassmaker, ceramicist and cabinetmaker, one of the major figures of the Art Nouveau movement. Born in Nancy, he founded a glassworks that became famous for his creations in colored, etched and enameled glass. Inspired by nature, he used floral and organic motifs, while developing new techniques such as multi-layered glass and inlay. His works, ranging from vases to lamps, are highly prized today for their originality and refinement, and his influence continues in the decorative arts.
