He was the son of the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Moreau and brother of Auguste and Mathurin Moreau. Hippolyte is best known for his works in the academic style, often depicting graceful female figures and allegorical scenes. His sculptures, in bronze or marble, were appreciated for their delicacy and sensuality. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon, where he won several awards.
