Camille Dolard was a famous photographer from the 1830s to the 1850s. He replaced his wife Nadar in his studio in the 1850s. He also devoted himself to painting in the late 1850s and exhibited still lifes and portraits of astonishing realism at the Salon de Lyon, very close to trompe l'oeil! Our painting is undoubtedly the painting exhibited in 1860 at the annual exhibition of the Société des Amis des Arts de la ville de Lyon in the main hall of the municipal museum and entitled "Après-dîner. - Nature morte" (number 245).
