Camille Dolard is a famous photographer of the 1830s-1850s. He abandoned photography for painting at the end of the 1850s and exhibited at the Salon de Lyon still lifes and portraits of astonishing realism very close to trompe l'oeil! Our painting could be the painting exhibited in 1860 at the annual exhibition of the Société des Amis des Arts de la ville de Lyon in the large room of the municipal museum and entitled “Après-dîner. - Nature morte” (number 245).
