"The Neapolitan Fisherman", by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, emblematic work of the sculptor, which he created during his stay at the Villa Medici, during a study trip to Naples where the artist noticed a young 13-year-old fisherman on the beach. This subject allowed its author to be recognized for his immense talent and less academic than his peers. Carpeaux moved away from the static figuration of classical sculpture, and from there, let his creative genius emerge.
