"The Man In The Frock Coat Polychrome Wood Statue 19th Century"
It could be a farmer or a wheelwright, a railway or post office worker… I don’t see any distinctive sign, as the working class outfit in the 19th century consisted of a head covering and a blouse called a frock coat. I forgot that a scarf was also needed, here it is not tied around the neck of the bearded character, it sticks out of his pocket…. Let’s stop scrutinizing him, he is eating. This magnificent polychrome wooden statue takes us back some 150 years… note that he is brandishing a thick leather arm guard on his wrist…. But for what job?... Miller perhaps, docker, possible… Superb folk art. By the way, the buckle for attaching the belt of the sleeve is missing.
