A detailed Islamic manuscript page or illustration of the famous Persian poet and mystic Jalal Ad-Din Muhammed Balkhi, better known as Rumi (1207-1275), surrounded by dervishes.
There are some accounts of the life of Rumi, his son and that written by the dervish Aflaki in 1360, as well as the version and translation commissioned by the Ottoman Sultan Murad III in 1590 (based on another version from 1540). In 1230, the famous dervish Burhan-Al Din Muhaqqiq decided to devote his life to the spiritual training of the young man of the time, Rumi. He taught him the Sufi doctrine and was his mentor. The influence and importance of the dervishes in Rumi's life is depicted in the painting. This illustration is painted after that of the 1590 version by Murad III.
