Impressive fountain mascaron, lead, more than 5kg, antique piece Louis XIV style that survived its old dismantling, Nîmes-Alès region.
This roaring lion has a mane that is reminiscent of the Gran Siècle wigs, with even a heart-catcher on forehead.
The wide open mouth let the fountain pipe pass through, (which I do not have).
The lower lip of beautiful animal is incomplete on 2.8cm, see photos, red arrows.
It may be from Louis XIV period, circa 1700, or later (by use of old mold, as we saw on the fountains of Versailles).
