"Jean Rigaud : "doëlan, Finistere, The Port At Low Tide""
Jean Rigaud (1912-1999): "Doëlan, Finistère, the port at low tide", oil on canvas 46 X 55 cm, mounted in a Parnassian frame 54 X 74 cm. Although painted before his title of Official Painter of the Navy (he obtained it in 1956 and his stay in Doëlan dates from 1954), it is one of the most beautiful that we have had, as much for the boldness of the plunging composition, the warm and luminous palette on cold tones (which may seem paradoxical, but is eminently sensitive here) or the transparency of the waters, all this contributes to making it particularly desirable... The Artist participated in collective exhibitions, notably at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts of which he was a member of the jury and the committee and has obtained numerous distinctions and his paintings are present in many museums.
