"L.j. Alexandre : "ossalois Couple 1904""
LJ Alexandre (19th/20th century) : “Couple of Ossalois 1904”, pair of large terracotta 59 and 62 cm. Small chips on the terraces, wear and oxidation of the patina, missing the woman’s “Herade” and the man’s stick. Our couple of Ossalois is the work of a little-known sculptor from Pau, the ornamental author of the façade of the Hôtel Continental or the Guillemin chapel in the Pau cemetery, who here gives us a charming vision of the shepherd with his big patou dog, beret and esclops, looking tenderly at the charming young woman in the capulet whose “herade” (missing) fills at the fountain on which rests the fabric ring that will be used to carry it on her head. Unknown on the market, these extremely rare sculptures are emblematic of one of the most beautiful places in the Pyrenees, the Ossau Valley.
