""the Spinner" Oil On Canvas, Luigi Bianchi (milan 1827 - 1914) Italian School"
Pretty young Italian peasant woman spinning in a natural landscape. Seated in profile, she smiles with beautiful pink lips and cheekbones. She is wearing gold earrings. The painter paid particular attention to the spinner’s hands, which are enhanced by the game of light and shadow coming from the left. Signed lower left. A lovely portrait that illustrates the painter’s work. This young girl served as a model for him on several occasions. Beautiful original frame. The canvas has been cleaned and revarnished.
Size : H 80 cm x 60 cm – H 108 cm x 92 cm
Italian school of the second half of the 19th century.
Lit: Luigi Bianchi was born in Milan in 1827. Before becoming a painter, he studied law at university. He interrupted his studies to fight in the wars of independence. Later, he began his artistic career by enrolling at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. His teacher was the famous Francesco Hayez. This experience also led him to make several trips to the peninsula, with the desire and enthusiasm to encounter other artistic currents of the time to broaden his knowledge. Among the cities where he spent the longest periods of time was Rome. This was also due to the romantic style and tendencies he had acquired at the academy. He specialized in portraits and historical interiors. He won a prize in 1861 for his work ‘On the eve of liberation’ and sold ‘A carnival in Rome’ in Paris in 1877. Among his last works was ‘The Blessing of the Children’, painted for the parish church of Carate Brianza. Luigi Bianchi died in Milan in 1914.
