Boot Scraper Called T'iiguzat
Inuit culture, Alaska
18th century or earlier
Marine ivory
8.5 cm long, 5.2 cm long
(old crack)

An instrument reserved for women, this scraper in the shape of a stylised cetacean was used to work the skin used to make boots.

The blade of the scraper, slightly flared and hollowed out, is located at the end of the polylobed handle - the tail of the sea mammal - making the tool easier to hold and handle.
