Mount Snowdon is far from unknown to lovers of English painting, and more particularly in Wales. This mountain, the highest in the country, is located in the northwest of the territory and was regularly depicted by traveling landscape painters. Our canvas presented in tondo is not signed but could be by a painter named Wilson. Confusion seems to exist in England between several landscape painters with varying qualities who share the same name. The work we are presenting is one of the most interesting and best-executed compositions that the various Wilsons have left us to see. The perfectly respected depth echoes the whiteness of the cold water running in the foreground. The small wooden and stone bridge, centered on the canvas, forms a natural barrier to this snow-capped mountain.
