Even if most of Noirot's works are landscapes of his region (Roanne, Saint-Etienne), the artist traveled significantly. Monaco, the Var, the Dauphiné (he was a founding member of the society of Mountain Painters), Italy, the forest of Fontainebleau (he stayed there for six years and had as teachers the "Barbizonians" François-Louis Français and Charles-François Daubigny), but also Brittany, and therefore Normandy as our pastel proves. Noirot also exhibited a Cliff at Yport at the Toulouse Salon of 1908. But that's about it for Normandy. The artist exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1866, and won several medals there.
Noirot chose here, like Monet in 1892, to represent the entrance to the Cour d'Albane, located to the northwest of Rouen Cathedral, with the houses leaning against the foot of the buttresses of the Saint-Romain tower. These were destroyed during the bombings of 1944.
