de Elegant boat bed, Empire/Restoration style and early 19th century in flamed mahogany and finely chiseled bronze and mercury gilded with matt and shiny gold. Original bronzes and mercury gilded, signed on the reverse "GA", probably for Claude Galle or Gérad-Jean Galle. The bed is stamped 3 times "KOLPING" for Othon Kolping (1775-1853). Excellent condition Interior dimensions: 121 x175 cm Othon Kolping (1775-1853), Parisian cabinetmaker established around 1804 place St Antoine specializing in mahogany and light wood furniture. His name is synonymous with quality. He acquired a good reputation in the 1820s and is considered one of the best craftsmen of his time. Cited in the Bazar Parisien of 1821, Kolping was considered at the time as "a good cabinetmaker. He invented several types of beds in the most pleasant shapes..." and he was also one of the inventors of the mirrored wardrobe. He participated in the Exhibitions of Industrial Products in 1823 and 1827. He provided furniture for the Imperial furniture store (1811) and that of the crown (1837). Furniture from his work is present in the collections of national furniture.
