Object description :

"Merio Ameglio (1897-1970) Peasant And His Donkey, Corsica. Montmartre, Côte d'Azur, Provence, Leprin"
Very pretty little oil/canvas by Merio Ameglio representing a landscape with a character and his donkey, probably in Corsica, signed lower left + annotations on the back "Merio Ameglio + an address and peasant or landscape in Corsica. Size of the canvas alone without frame 16x22cm. This is indeed an adorable post-impressionist composition by Mério Ameglio who here paints a peasant and his donkey therefore probably in Corsica; the painter uses his characteristic touch of the first period, partly with a knife, very rich material, in a lively and luminous palette. Mério Ameglio was born in San Remo but spent his entire childhood in the south of France. Passionate about painting from a young age, he observed the artists working on the Riviera and trained by watching them work. As a young man, he decided to go and improve his skills in Paris, and went back to the capital painting the landscapes he crossed. He settled in the bohemian and artistic district of Montmartre and met many avant-garde artists such as Pablo Picasso, Jacques Villon and Jean Paul François Galle. He enrolled in the École de Paris. He is mainly known for his landscapes, city scenes and seascapes, most of which were painted in Paris, on the Côte d'Azur or in Corsica. He exhibited oil paintings at the Paris Salons and in 1938 received the first honorable mention for his painting Rouen Cathedral. After the war, he continued to live in Montmartre and exhibited regularly in galleries in Paris and the south of France (Cannes, Nice, Menton). In October 1969, the Cambacérès gallery (Paris) organized a retrospective of his work. He died in Montmartre on July 29, 1970. This painting is in good original condition, delivered in a period frame. Guaranteed authentic work
