"Landscape Bay Of Sanary - Six-fours, Signed Charles Victor Guilloux, 20th Century, Oil On Canvas"
Landscape Bay of Sanary - Six-fours, signed Charles Victor Guilloux, 20th century, oil on canvas, titled on frame on the reverse, 32.5x55cm, unframed Employed at the Bibliothèque nationale de Paris, Charles Guilloux, a self-taught artist, is often associated with symbolism by critics such as Aurier, Fénéon and de Gourmont. From 1891, he exhibited at the Société des artistes indépendants and at the “Impressionnistes et Symbolistes” exhibitions at the Barc de Boutteville. His works quickly became more enigmatic, with titles with musical connotations, such as Scherzo lunaire (1894). This structuring of space and the emphasis on shapes and colours, noted by André Mellerio, can be seen in paintings such as Sunrise on a canal or Landscape at twilight. Guilloux also exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants until 1914. In 2007, the Musée d'Orsay acquired his Twilight (1892) and Banks of the Seine at Dusk (1894).
