"Drawing Bernard Becan Caricature Theater Jeanne Lory"
Caricature drawing of a theater scene made by Bernard Bécan (1890-1943) in homage to the French actress Jeanne Lory (1876-1951). The drawing is watercolored and presents us with a portrait of the actress during a role in the theater. We will observe a dedication by the author "With my applause to Jeanne Lory" accompanied by the signature "Becan". Work in very good condition Format 22/15.5cm Bernard Becan Student of the Beaux-Arts2 and of Jules-Victor Verdier (1862-1926) who led him to engraving and enamels, he joined the Foreign Legion, then collaborated on a newspaper of poilus during the Great War. After 1918, he became an illustrator and poster artist for cinema and theater. His sober and incisive style led him to a fruitful career as a caricaturist and press cartoonist. He began as a cartoonist in 1917 at Carnet de la Semaine3. In the early 1920s, he contributed to the newspapers Le Rire, Le Grand Guignol, Le Canard enchaîné, Le Progrès civique, L'Œuvre and Le Journal. He was an indulgent portraitist and caricaturist.
