"Girard Joseph (born 1867 - Paris 1938)"
Pair of diptychs, watercolor and gouache highlights on paper, ogival shape on a gray geometric background, one titled and signed on the reverse. Each 31.5 x 47.5cm. Two study projects, around 1919, for frescoes intended to adorn the choir of the Saint-Bruno church in Voiron almost forty years after its consecration (May 1883). They represent the procession of the Voeu de Ville decided by the Voiron councilors following the plague of 1631. Faced with the scourge, the municipal council, requesting divine intervention, promised to organize a procession every year. The mayor had to attend barefoot, holding a candle. Among several projects presented by the artist, the municipality of the time chose another representation of the procession.
