"Large Canvas Painted In The Style Of Hubert Robert, Late 19th Century"
- Painted canvas from the end of the 19th century in the style of Hubert Robert depicting a peaceful scene of pastoral life in a rural and bucolic setting. In the foreground, at the top of a hill, a pastoral scene made so delicate by its smallness is offered to us; two washerwomen, basket in hand, converse while a child at their side looks back towards a peasant, languid against a rock and watching over two of his cattle. This scene is established in a setting made bucolic thanks to a composition mixing vegetation, gentle mountainous reliefs, architectural elements with the small village perched on the hillock and expanse of water whose flat calm reinforces the feeling of serenity.
- The drawing is distinguished by a great finesse of execution, the treatment is so delicate that we perceive, for example, each leaf, the vegetation is present in number but it emerges airy, light. The trees in the foreground and the advance of the hill plunged into shadow allow to reveal with force the pleasant landscape offered by the lake surrounded by reliefs which move further and further away. This effect of depth is created thanks to an aerial perspective; the distances are drowned in a little mist, slightly confused without details in cold bluish tones. - Wooden frame carved with rays of hearts and gilded.
- Wear and restorations of the pictorial layer are to be noted
