The episode of David and Bathsheba, narrated in the Bible and often represented in ancient paintings, depicts the moment in which the king of Israel sees the beautiful Bathsheba bathing in a fountain from the window of his palace. She is the wife of Uriah the Hittite, a soldier in his army, but the king decides to invite her to the palace and lie with her anyway. After Uriah's fall in battle, King David and Bathsheba married and gave birth to their son Solomon, who will be one of the greatest and wisest of Israel.
