Cylindrical kobako with two compartments in roiro lacquer, decorated in gold hiramaki-e and kin nashiji with a fan in the water. The interior in nashiji lacquer.

The game of floating fans was very popular among the nobles and ladies of the court in Japan. A small river is chosen for this game. The partners gather at a specific point, and each of them places a small fan specially prepared in varnished paper on the water. While the fan is floating down the river, the person whose fan it is the owner must compose a short poem before his fan reaches a predetermined point.
