Portrait of the Princess of Lamballe Born in the Royal House of Piedmont, Marie-Thérèse of Savoy Carignan 1749 1792 was married in 1768 to the Prince of Lamballe, a neglected wife, she was widowed at 18 and her father-in-law, the Duke of Penthièvre, grandson of Louis XIV, took her in. Marie Antoinette took her under her wing and made her her favorite.
