"Pair Of Italian Neoclassical Laquered And Gilt Wood Vases 1780 Circa"
Pair Of Circular Vases In Ivory color Lacquered Wood and Gilt with curved wrought-iron and gilt handles, resting on a tall square base lacquered in ivory color that supports the turned and carved vase with ribs and ribbing. These are neoclassical period, late 18th-century Italian centerpiece altar liturgical decorations, with the back side decorated too. The finish is played on the alternation between ivory lacquer and gouache fine gold gilding on a red bole preparation. On the top a large circular hole was probably used to place the sheet metal flower vase. The two iron handles have scrolls at the top and lovely curls at the bottom. The condition is good consistent with dating to the late 1700s. They come from northern Italy.Palm holders are flower vases that were placed on altars as decorations; often reduced in shape in depth and undecorated in the back because they were leaning against the walls in side altars. Palms symbolizing the victory of Christianity give way to faux flowers made of various materials such as fabric, sheet metal, and beads. They lend themselves excellently as decorations to be included in any furnishings and can become two splendid bases for antique neoclassical lamps. The general state of preservation is good, with signs of wear, defects, and restorations compatible with the date.
