This is an antique European Tetex rug woven in Germany during the first quarter of the 20th century, around the 1920s. Also called "Janus" rug according to the lily stitch weaving method. Wool rug on cotton base.
The history of Tetex rug..
Europeans love to have Persian and other oriental rugs in their home or office, that's why Persian rugs have always been in high demand in Europe.
During the 1920s and 1930s, Persian and Caucasian rugs were so popular and weavers from Persia and Caucasus could not keep up with the orders from Western merchants. So some of the merchants decided to manufacture the Persian and Caucasian design in Europe, some started in Germany which is called Tetex and some were made in Austria with another technique.
This rug features a Persian motif, which is characterized by an intricate design, inspired by the early Safavid Empire rugs.
Its floral design forms a sequential delta on a range of cheerful colors.
