"Aubusson Style Knotted Rug"
Aubusson style rug, circa 1920.Usually English or French, often with repeating designs executed with wool cross-stitch.
Large rugs are workshop-produced, while smaller pieces are made by a single artisan such as this one.
Flat-weave texture, without raised pile.
The best are those from the 19th century, although modern examples are common and highly regarded also of Chinese manufacture.
Rare motifs of bouquets, flowers, elephants and plants.
