19th Impressive Neoclassical Cache-pot Vase In Green Marble

Imposing serpentine marble cache pot, also called "Prato green". Rome, neoclassical period, first half of the 19th century.
In the neoclassical period, Roman workshops produced fine marble pottery in imitation of ancient models; this one in particular is inspired by Egyptian models and was made of serpentine marble, called Prato green because it was extracted a few kilometers from the Tuscan city of the same name. Prato green marble was widely used in Tuscany in medieval times to create the "zebra" facades of churches.
Excellent state of conservation.
