Mathieu PLANCHON (1842-1921) is a watchmaker, historian and theoretician of watchmaking. He settled in Paris, at the Palais-Royal, in the 1870s. He also worked with Jean E. ROBERT-HOUDIN, famous watchmaker and manufacturer of automata before becoming a famous illusionist. He studied the systems of "Mysterious Pendulums" and his work will be followed by Maurice Couet who will ensure the creation of these famous mysterious pendulums for the famous jeweler CARTIER. Planchon also reconstructed the clock donated by Viollet-Le-Duc as well as the monumental clock by Jean Fusoris for Bourges Cathedral in his Dictionnaire du Mobilier.
