He was appointed professor in Metz in 1933, and taught at the boys' high school, the girls' high school and the École Normale de Montigny. Mobilized in 1939, he resumed his teaching in Paris in 1940, at the Lycée Carnot then worked in Niort and Aix-en-Provence before returning to Metz in 1945. During all these years, he continued his work and participated in numerous exhibitions including those of the Artistes mosellans (1947-1949). Among his frescoes, we can mention the one that decorates the hall of honor of the IUFM of Metz (Les Muses, 1947) and that of the Metz-Bellecroix school (1959). The Metz museum has four of his works: Quartier latin, Sortie d'école, Tour de Babel, Écluse de l'Esplanade. There are currently very few referenced works by Georges Schirmann. We can strongly assume that the painter traveled and painted during his holidays by returning to his hometown and perhaps his childhood neighborhood. Original oil on canvas 66x50.5 cm, dated 1937.
