"Chalice And Paten In Gilded Silver. France Circa 1870"
Chalice and paten in gilded silver. This chalice is in the neo-Gothic style, with a large hexalobed base with a projection, decorated with a frieze of pearls. On the terrace of the foot, three round medallions representing two rosettes and a cross, decorated with colored cabochons, alternate with floral motifs in high relief. They are separated by large lanceolate leaves, all on a guilloche background. The stem of the chalice, tubular in shape, is encircled at its beginning by a ring and a collar with rope. The flattened toric knot is decorated with palm leaves and embellished with six buttons set with colored cabochons, in perfect correspondence with the decoration of the terrace of the foot. The stem supports a conical cup with a straight lip, covered with a cut-out false cup, which takes up the same decoration as the terrace of the foot, and whose edge is decorated with floral pinnacles and Gothic trefoils. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmarks Master Goldsmith's Hallmark: Jamain & Chevron 1865-1879 Height: 25.3 cm Base: 16.2 cm Net weight: 396 g Attached: a gilded silver paten, decorated with a cross pattée. ---------------------------------- Chalice: Very good condition, without shocks, deformations or restorations.
