Rare mbossed and chiseled brass Alms dish depicting Virgin Marie with child
"The Virgin with child is depicted in the center of the dishholding her child in her right arm and a processional cross in her left hand. The virgin is standing uproght above a crescent moon and is surrounded by a dense radiant halo. She has a crown on her head, symbolizing her universal regality.
These not so rare marian images are a clear example of how popular Marian devotion was in southern medieval Germany.
The central marian image is bounded by a band of small stamped leaves and an interlaced phytomorphic decoration."
Workshops of Nuremberg (Germany), 15th century.
Used condition: General wear of the decoration, piercings of the brass and cut on the edge formerly restored with tin, these defects don't affect the readability of the subject (see photos).
