Achille Bron (1867-1949) Washerwoman In Dordogne C.1905. Friend And Student Of Madeline, Charente Crozant

Superb oil/canvas by Achille Bron representing a washerwoman in the Dordogne signed lower right + titled on an old label on the back + address of the painter in Taillebourg in Charente Maritime (for information, I am offering in another advert an interesting painting by Paul Madeline, his friend and master, which represents his daughter in the courtyard of Achille Bron's house in Taillebourg in 1900, see last photo) Size of the canvas alone without frame 54x65cm This is therefore a magnificent post-impressionist canvas by Achille Bron who paints here a superb scene of a washerwoman on a river, probably the Dordogne, we can also see a boat, houses in a village, it could perhaps be La Roque-Gageac....We immediately recognise the touch of Achille Bron, very impressionist, obviously extremely close to that of his friend and master Paul Madeline, just like his palette here made of magnificent greens, blues, pink, ochres etc... Achille Bron was born in Crazannes in Charente and he began his studies in Saintes then in Angoulême; then he went up to Paris, entered the faculty of medicine and frequented the Moulin Rouge where he admired Toulouse Lautrec. In 1894 he established himself as a doctor in Taillebourg in Charente Inférieure today Charente Maritime, a profession that he shared with painting since he also exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants et des Artistes Français. In 1912 the Petit Journal cited his works among celebrities such as Laurencin, Metzinger, Picabia, Rassetti etc... Bron also exhibited regularly in the Province. He therefore met Paul Madeline who gave him some lessons but above all became his best friend, as evidenced by the numerous works by Madeline or Bron that they dedicated to each other or to their respective wives, they very often painted on the same motifs (Charente, Dordogne, Brittany, Agay, Collioure, Limousin...). However, we know that Bron came very regularly to Haute Vienne, in particular to paint the banks of the Vienne or Briance, but we have no proof that he followed Madeline to Creuse. On the other hand, Bron partly adopted Madeline's technique and palette, to the point that their works were sometimes extremely similar. Today his works are quite rare and rather sought after by amateurs, as evidenced by this last canvas sold a few months ago in Limoges, representing the beach of Platin in Saint-Palais sur mer, sold for more than €2,500 including fees.
