Eurydice, 16th century Workshop of HENDRICK GOLTZIUS (1558-1617) Large scale depiction of Eurydice from the 16th century Dutch/German school, oil on canvas. A large scale full-length depiction of Eurydice, one of the primordial nature deities of Greek mythology made famous by the tale of Orpheus who travels to Hades to retrieve his lover after she dies after being fatally bitten by the viper. Circa 1590 and a rare early depiction of her alone in the mountain forests clinging to the branch of a tree and her foot by a river symbolising the elements of nature she represents. Various retouches to the reverse but still on its original lining. Housed in a gilt frame. Dimensions: 67" x 45" framed approx. Provenance: A private London Old Master collection
