"Monstrance Reliquary Of Saint Liberat - Late 18th Century"
A work from southern Germany, our pyramid-shaped monstrance is made of delicately carved and gilded wood. It rests on a wooden base, which is also a reliquary. The main niche receives a notable relic of Saint Liberatus, abbot martyr in 484. The upper niche hosts fragments ex-ossibus and also bagged, of the Holy Martyrs Gratian and Fulgence.
The whole centered on a small gouache in medallion rests on a rich work of pearls, stones and silver threads. On the back are numerous wax seals attesting to the inviolability of this reliquary which also has its original glasses.
Piece in good condition despite some cracks and small losses.
Dimensions of 50 cm high by 33 wide and 11 cm deep.
