Large Paris Porcelain Rocaille Bowl Centerpiece

Large cup centerpiece in Paris porcelain with gold highlights. It has a rocaille openwork decoration of scrolls, acanthus, the lower part of the cup in wickerwork. It is decorated with delicate flower beds, rosebuds and foliage. The cup rests on a large pedestal also openwork.

This type of ornamental piece reflects the mid-19th century’s taste for large productions inspired by the previous century. Artisans drew inspiration from past styles, especially the curves and floral motifs characteristic of the Louis XV period, without copying them directly. These large vases were sometimes intended to be placed as decoration on furniture against a wall and decorated on only one side to reduce decoration costs. However, this particular piece is adorned on all sides, likely meant to display fruit or floral arrangements as a centerpiece on a table.
