Lovely little brass hanap or pitcher called "helmet ewer" because it roughly resembled the inverted and stylized shape of a helmet.
The piece is very sober, displaying a relatively stripped-down decorative aesthetic, without addition of chiseled decoration, which precisely highlights the lonely shape of the ewer; only flat lambrequins decorate the lower part; sober lines of moldings separate the body of the hanap into 3 parts; The handle receives a treatment in volutes and foliage a little richer and more stylized.
The hanap may have originally silvered, even if there is absolutely any trace of it remains.
Condition: Very good condition
The pedestal has not been sunk as often, and the pitcher foot is quite straight, in its original condition
Dimensions
21cm height (21.5cm with the slightly protruding handle)
12 and 19 cm (handle) diameters
Very nice and interestng iconic piece of Louis XIV tableware; we more frequently find hanaps of this period in pewter (often), ceramic, silver or silver plated.
