Demester Eugene - Brittany - Return From Fishing At Sunset - Oil On Canvas - Signed

This oil on canvas shows a return from fishing at sunset, in a Breton port. Sailboats of all sizes crowd together, all sails still out. In the center of the composition, the sun radiates the sky. It is reflected in the water of the sea which takes on green reflections. In the background we can see a jetty.
The work, in perfect condition, is signed lower left. It is offered in a Montparnasse-type frame, in good general condition (some lack of patina, no damaged moldings).

The artist
Eugène Demester was born in Paris in 1914. He was the son of Charles Demester, a renowned painter specializing in paintings of animals and landscapes. Eugène Demester trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He enjoyed success during his lifetime, particularly with his scenes of Parisian life and fishing scenes in Brittany, like the one we are offering here. He remains very popular with collectors for these scenes of daily life.
