For comparison, two gouaches by GALIEN LALOUE, also signed "F.GIUSTO", authenticated by Noé WILLER, specialist of the artist, were sold on November 23, 2010 by Sotheby's in London (lots 177 and 178)
The gouache that we offer, in excellent condition and in its original frame, is of very high quality, finely detailed.
It illustrates the city of Paris during the Belle Epoque area, idealized, its stores lit up as evening falls...
Note the very beautiful reliefs to materialize certain lighting effects and the presence of numerous elegant ladies strolling in the street (the Paquin fashion house was then located at No. 3 rue de la Paix, the Garnier opera being also nearby).
Eugène GALIEN LALOUE was a prolific painter, best known for his Parisian gouaches, which are highly sought after and which can be negotiated for several tens of thousands of euros ; he also painted a large number of landscapes and seascapes through his numerous trips to France.
