It comes from Northern Greece and dates from the second half of the 17th century around 1650-1700.
This rare iconographic representation is a particularly poetic and touching subject: The beauty of Mary shines eternally -- like a flower that would never fade -- thanks to her infinite love for humanity and for her son.
Mary is represented in bust, seated on her throne and holding a sprig of flowers -- symbol of love and purity. the Child Jesus is standing to his left, a bouquet of flowers at his feet. He is dressed as king of the universe and holds the attributes of his omnipotence: a globe and a scepter. Finally, at the top of the composition, two angels crown the Mother of God, symbol of her celestial dimension.
The icon is finely painted in tempera in warm tones with a predominance of red. Marie's expression is particularly tender. The background is gilded, symbol of divine light.
Pretty good general state of conservation considering its age. The wooden panel is structurally solid but shows old traces of insect attacks, which have now been neutralized and have not damaged the pictorial layer. Wear, cracks, splits and losses.
This icon is sold with its certificate of authenticity and a complete description of the work.
