The work was carried out in Rome between 1805 and 1808 on the orders of Pauline Bonaparte's husband, Camillo Borghese, in honor of the marriage of the French emperor's sister to a representative of the princely family.
After the sculpture was completed; it was transported to Turin where Camillo's mansion was located and then to Genoa and it was not until 1838 that the master's work arrived at the Borghese Gallery.
Our sculpture in white Carrara marble is a reduced model dating from the second half of the 19th century , around 1880.
This beautiful sculpture rests on a rectangular gilded wooden base.
This sculpture is in very good condition and of excellent quality !
