"Molosser Collar - Dog Walker & Landmark Bells - Dog Collar - Folk Art"
Mid-19th Century France This brass and leather dog collar is a remarkable example of French craftsmanship, lovingly and robustly designed for… a slightly boisterous little walker! Originally intended to protect mastiffs from predator attacks, this model, with its imposing brass spikes, seems to have been more of a walking tool for a not-so-threatening dog. The cone-shaped studs, elegantly decorated with brass dots, add a defensive touch, yes, but also a certain presence to this collar, a bit like if this brave dog wanted to impose itself on the sidewalks of the time. Imagine a small puppy – or a small dog, ambitious but light – strolling, bells jingling, allowing its master to follow it by ear: a wandering dog, yes, but easily spotted! This adjustable collar opens completely and even has a leash attachment. Frankly, given the size of the attachment, it's hard to imagine a mastiff at the other end of the leash! More like a boisterous and mischievous little dog, strutting proudly with a collar worthy of a warrior, while trotting happily, under the watchful eye of his master who hears him ringing bells in the wind. Please note: The collar shows signs of natural wear, which makes it an authentic witness of its time and its many walks, but it remains in good general condition.
