Fireplace plate, called oven door, from the 17th century, in perfect condition, with the coat of arms of the Pillot de Poitiers, whose known lineage goes back to Blaise 1602-1678, bailiff. The eldest of his sons Jean 1626-1700, lord of la Barre is father of Pierre 1662-1710, lord of la Barre, advisor to the King and Controller at the Finance Office of Poitiers. Jean's two other brothers are René ?- 1693, royal sergeant, bailiff and Philibert 1637-1707, lord of la Palaudière and Chastillon, advisor to the King, tax collector in Saint-Maixent, general controller of finances in Poitiers (1695). Pierre Pillot was one of the 2 successful bidders (with Jacques Lelarge sr de la Dréjonnière) of the fleets of the King's wood. This activity consisted of the supply and trade of timber and firewood for the city and surrounding area of Poitiers. Transport was done by floating on the Clain. When her husband died, Marie Chénier took over the torch for another fifteen years. (Source: "le Clain" by Vincent Olivier) Coat of arms: According to the Armorial Général d'Hozier of 1696 of Poitou, the arms of this plaque are those of Pierre Pillot, "Azure, a ship equipped with gold, sailing on a sea of silver and accompanied in chief by two stars of the same", those of Philibert, his uncle, being "Azure, a ship equipped with silver, sailing in a sea and accompanied in chief by two stars of the same". See our last two photos. The shield, flanked by crosiers in a cartouche, is topped with a helmet and lambrequins. Plaque found in Saint Eliph in Eure et Loir. Its weight is 135 kg.
