Flemish School, humorous genre scene representing a man asleep on his chair who is being titillated by a woman. Painted in the humorous spirit of the 17th century Dutch (Adriaen Brouwer) or (Metsu) Karel (Charles) Venneman: Ghent 1803-Saint Josse ten Oode 1875. Pupil of Ferdinand de Braekeleer senior and began his artistic career in 1837. His production is large and he had a very good reputation during his lifetime. He exhibited successfully in Ghent, Antwerp, Brussels and elsewhere. (Bibl: E. De Seyn)
