"Country Scene, Oil On Panel Attributed To A.govaerts, Flanders 17th Century."
Oil on oak panel, in two parts, depicting various rural scenes in the same painting. In the center, a family in a cart pulled by two horses, a rider next to them, a woman carrying a basket on her head, all in a shaded alley. On the left, cows grazing on grass at the edge of a stream, the entrance to a small town in the background, with a church. On the right, a fisherman in his boat, in front of his house where we see a woman feeding the chickens, and a child. In the 2nd and 3rd planes, another fisherman's house, and a larger town, probably fortified. A river gives depth to the scene. Beautiful composition, and great freshness of colors. At the back, probably the mark of the Antwerp painters' guild, engraved in the oak. Beautiful French frame with daisy from the Louis XIV period. Former attribution to Abraham GOVAERTS (1589-1626)
