Important rectangular console table with central projection in molded wood, carved in high relief and painted in gilded Louis XVI style. Central cartouche representing the head of Mercury with his attributes. The sheath feet are carved on all four sides. Marble top. Mercury comes from Roman mythology. Subtle and astute, he presides over commerce, eloquence, patron saint of travelers. He is the messenger of Zeus, but also the god of thieves. He is identified with the Greek god Hermes, the messenger of the gods. Second half of the 20th century
