The box is of an elongated oval shape, called a navette, it probably contained needles or one or more small toiletry instruments such as an ear cleaner, toothpick or tongue scraper. The box opens with a hinge with a beautiful pomponne mount whose gilding is in excellent condition.
The lid is superbly enameled midnight blue on a guilloche background of wavelets and semi-dots in keeping with the production of the 18th century.
The inside of the box reveals a mirror and a midnight blue textile background, restored later, in keeping with the enamel of the lid,
This is a magnificent little box, very elegant, having most certainly belonged to a great lady of the late 18th century or early 19th century, after the troubles of the Revolution, as indicated by the preciousness of the materials used.
