"Isamu Hirakawa (okkaïdo 1921- Paris 1989) "a Street In Périgueux In 1974", Oil On Canvas"
This oil on canvas represents a street in medieval Périgueux in 1974; it is signed Isamu Hirakawa at the bottom right, dated and located on the back. Isamu Hirakawa is a painter born in Okkaïdo, Japan, in 1921; settled in Paris, 12 rue Haxo -20th, he offered practically monochrome works where gray, black dominated in his discovery of the old districts of Paris; he participated from 1964 in the Salons of the Society of French Artists. From 1974, he moved to Périgord and the state of decrepitude of the old buildings of Périgueux or Sarlat in the 70s-80s was a source of inspiration: he certainly painted landscapes but also walls, alleys as if he was attached to the miserabilism, to the grayness which emanated from these old medieval districts not yet restored and rehabilitated. He exhibited in 1975 at the Salon d'Automne of the Société des beaux arts de la Dordogne as well as in 1985 during the centenary of this same society, proof of the recognition granted to his work.
