The tray is made of glass, it has a superb scalloped shape typical of the rocaille spirit. The glass bottom is molded with large swirling gadroons, forming a radiant pattern responding to the curves of the general shape.
The outline is enhanced by a superb and large solid silver mount, also typical of rocaille, with a "second skin" formed of waves that covers the edge and seems to flow towards the glass bottom. Curved and counter-curved patterns sporadically animate this mount.
The shape of the tray is intelligently thought out because despite its random appearance, the side lobes form very good grips and ensure a good hold in the hand.
The mount is hallmarked with the Minerva 1st title from before 1973 for 950/°° silver. I did not find a goldsmith's hallmark.
This is a superb piece, heavy with a quality mount, a true homage to the rocaille style with its shape, its swirling pattern and its superb solid silver mount.
