"Late 14th-early 15th Century Wooden Panel With Gold Background Depicting Saint Thomas Aquinas"
Beautiful fragment of a tempera painting on a gold background, applied on a wooden panel, depicting Saint Thomas Aquinas. The saint is dressed in the Dominican habit, characterized by a white woolen robe with a hood and a dark woolen cape; his hair also reflects the attributes of the monastic order. His gaze, frontal and almost penitential, is emphasized by a halo engraved in the decorations on the golden background. In the lower part of the composition, there are a plant and a book, which Saint Thomas holds in his hand. This work is of great value and refinement, capable of enriching with history and beauty. It is attributed to an anonymous Sienese painter active between the late 14th and early 15th centuries.
