Jules Blanchard - Portrait Of A Child - Terracotta Bust - 1867 -

Born not far from Orléans, Jules Blanchard is a sculptor whose works on the market are rare. And for good reason, the artist, winner of the Prix de Rome for sculpture in 1832, distinguished himself above all through the construction of public monuments.

Responsible in particular for the restoration of the Palm Fountain on the Place du Châtelet, his works mark the Parisian promenades. For example, we find his 'Bocca della Verita' in the Luxembourg Gardens, and on the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville a bronze allegory of Science.

The Musée d'Orsay, for its part, preserves a monumental Andromeda in limestone. (RF 3893) Our bust, which has remained in the artist's family until today, is a more intimate work. Although more attractive, and with more detailed work, we can compare our bust to that of Clotilde Lameire, which is also kept at the Musée d'Orsay (RF MO ODO 2015 2 33)
