Tiberius Julius Caesar Augustus (in Latin Tiberius Iulius Caesar Augustus; Rome, 16 November 42 BC – Miseno, 16 March 37 AD) was the second Roman emperor, belonging to the Julio-Claudian dynasty, reigning from 14 to 37, the year of his death.
A member of the gens Claudia, at birth he was named Tiberius Claudius Nero (Tiberius Claudius Nero). He was adopted by Augustus and his name changed to Tiberius Julius Caesar (Tiberius Iulius Caesar); upon the death of his adoptive father, on 19 August 14, he took the name of Tiberius (Julius) Caesar Augustus (Tiberius (Iulius) Caesar Augustus) and was able to officially succeed him in the role of princeps, although he had already been associated in the government of the Empire since the year 12.
